Hashish, also called hash oil or hashish, is the pure extracted extract from hashish or cannabis. It’s a highly concentrated cannabis concentrate with a high concentration of all its essential oils and terpenes including, cannabidiol, thujone, thcogulene, and others. It’s basically pure THC (tetrahydrocannabis) in its unrefined state.
The term “hashish” comes from the Arabic ” hash “shat” meaning hash or smoke and “sati” meaning passion or love. In addition to the CBD and THC, the other terpenoids include a large number of others. Cannabinoids are believed to interact synergistically with the terpinen-4-ol, which is one of the two substances that cause the psychoactive properties of cannabis sativa. Thus they constitute a composite substance that may act as a stimulant, depressant, and anesthetic while being a powerful antioxidant.
Constituents of Cannabis Oil
The active constituents in cannabis oil are believed to occur in two different proportions: low THC and high phycocyanin. The low THC content is thought to be due to the method of which the oil is extracted. In the most commonly used extraction method, the dried flowers and leaves are crushed and mixed with an alcohol solution, then filtered to remove any solvent and left to dry. A second method called “fraction distillation” applies a lower temperature and a lower concentration of cannabidiol to the plant matter which results in a more concentrated product.
Study Findings on the Efficacy of Cannabis Medicines
Several clinical trials have examined the safety and efficacy of using cannabis oil for multiple sclerosis (MS) treatment. In the largest study to date, more than 900 people with MS participated in two separate studies. After two years, those who had used cannabis oil had a significantly greater improvement in their ability to move and function than those who did not use the oil. In addition, those who had CBD showed a trend of improving versus their placebo controls. The researchers believe that CBD is effective at reducing inflammation and the slowing of neuro-degeneration associated with multiple sclerosis.
In Europe and other certain countries have legalized the medicinal use of cannabis. The use of cannabis oil is not yet approved by the FDA as a prescription drug. However, many doctors and patients both in the United States, Europe, and India consider that the plant is therapeutic and safe for recreational use. Many European countries, including the United Kingdom, allow the private sector to cultivate and sell medical marijuana plants.
Potential Health Benefits of Cannabis Oil
There are several potential uses for cannabis oil. It has been found that the chemicals in the plant act as powerful antioxidants, preventing damage to the cells and limiting inflammation in the body. Medical studies have indicated that some of the compounds in the plant may help to reduce the incidence of painful seizures in children. The Canadian government has approved the use of hemp seed oil to treat children suffering from epilepsy.
The benefits of cannabis seed oil are not completely understood, but it appears to be a safe alternative to olive oil. Many people consume olive oil daily without realizing how much fat is actually contained in the food. It only becomes apparent during the process of cooking, when the fat content of foods begins to diminish. By taking cannabis sativa seed oil during the cooking process, the amount of fat is gradually reduced and the oils’ benefit is realized. This reduces the amount of cholesterol and increases HDL levels (good cholesterol). It also reduces blood pressure and provides a low-stress relief.
There are no clear studies regarding the effectiveness of cannabis seed oil in reducing cholesterol or blood pressure, although anecdotal evidence seems to indicate that it may help to relieve some of the symptoms of those diseases. More research is needed to confirm these claims. However, it is considered safe for use as a skincare benefit and may even help prevent certain types of cancers. Since it is so similar to other naturally occurring ingredients in skincare products, it is likely that the compound’s benefits will become even more pronounced when it is included in the creams, lotions, cleansers, and bath gels created with cannabis sativa seeds and oils.
