If there’s one thing Vivo knows how to nail, it’s design. The new Vivo V50 continues that tradition with a sleek, premium look that turns heads the moment you unbox it. The curved AMOLED display melts into the frame beautifully, and the Frost Blue variant I tested catches the light in all the right ways. Yes, it’s a bit slippery, but it oozes premium vibes in hand.
But in India’s mid-range market, looks alone won’t cut it. After using the Vivo V50 as my main phone for a week, here’s where it genuinely impressed me — and where it left me wanting more.
Cameras: Great in Daylight, Average at Night
If you’re eyeing the V50 for its camera setup, here’s the reality. In bright daylight, the 50MP main sensor shines. Photos come out sharp, colourful, and Instagram-ready. Some colours might feel slightly too boosted for purists, but for social media, they look great. Portrait shots surprised me with accurate edge detection, especially for this price range.
The 50MP selfie camera also delivers, perfect for video calls or your selfie game. Details are crisp, and skin tones generally look natural.
But when the sun goes down, so does the camera performance. Night mode does try to brighten things up, but noise creeps in, and fine details are lost. The 2MP depth and macro sensors feel more like filler than functional tools. Competitors like the Nothing Phone (2a) and Pixel 7a manage tricky lighting far better. If low-light photography is a priority, you might want to look elsewhere.
Battery Life & Charging: The Real Showstopper
Here’s where the Vivo V50 truly flexes its muscles. The 5000mAh battery is an absolute workhorse. Heavy WhatsApp use, YouTube marathons, camera testing, and hours of music streaming — and it still comfortably lasted a full day. With lighter use, I stretched it to almost 1.5 days.
And when you finally need to charge? That’s where the magic happens. The 80W fast charging is ridiculously quick. From 15% to around 85% in the time it takes to make breakfast — we’re talking just about 30 minutes. For power users, this battery-plus-charging combo is the phone’s strongest selling point.
Performance & Software: Smooth, But Not Perfect
Under the hood, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 with 12GB RAM (plus virtual RAM expansion) handles daily tasks like a champ. Social media scrolling, emails, browsing, and even moderate gaming — all run without hiccups. COD Mobile plays smoothly on medium settings, and app-switching is snappy.
On the software side, Funtouch OS 14 (based on Android 14) has improved compared to older Vivo skins. There’s less bloatware, and animations are smooth. However, some settings feel unnecessarily buried, and the interface can still feel busy compared to a clean stock Android experience. Vivo’s software update record has historically been inconsistent, so it’s worth keeping in mind.
Verdict: Worth the Price?
At ₹35,999 for the 12GB/256GB model, the Vivo V50 is a well-rounded phone with a premium design, stellar battery life, and insanely fast charging. The display is a treat for watching content, and daylight camera performance is impressive.
But it’s competing in a brutal ₹30k–₹40k segment where rivals offer better low-light photography and cleaner software experiences. If your priorities are all-day battery, superfast charging, and a stylish design, the V50 will make you very happy. Just don’t expect it to be a low-light photography champion.
